Coronado Springs Resort opened on August 1, 1997. It was Disney’s first and only resort in the moderate catagory to include convention space. In fact it boasts the largest convention hall on Disney property at 220,000-square-feet. It also has the largest hot tub on property.

The new 15 story high rise tower will add an additional 500 rooms. Looking at the model the new construction will address one of the resorts biggest criticism since its opening which is the long walk around the 22 acre center lake know as Lago Dorado.  New construction includes the “Floating Gardens and a Oasis” which connects to the rest of the resort via a series of bridges.

A rooftop dining venue will offer views of fireworks which weren’t specifically announced from where but it is suspected to be Epcot given the buildings location.

How the Solar Eclipse Will Affect Your Disney Trip

Screenshot_20170819-233301

Monday, Aug. 21, a solar eclipse will be seen across the United States from coast to coast. During the eclipse, the moon will pass in between the Earth and the sun, causing a shadow on Earth (you can learn more by clicking on this link). This rare, natural event is expected to be visible in the Central Florida area from approximately 1:15-4:30 p.m. For this reason, select attractions located across the Walt Disney World Resort may be temporarily unavailable due to low visibility.

MAGIC KINGDOM:  Tom Sawyer Island will end operation at 2 p.m. and remain closed for the remainder of the day.

DISNEY’S ANIMAL KINGDOM:  The animal trails will temporarily close prior to the onset of darkness. They will resume operations as natural lighting allows.

DISNEY’S BLIZZARD BEACH WATER PARK:  The park will close attractions as needed during this time, depending on light levels at the park. In addition, Blizzard Beach will have entertainment at the beach area with additional lighting when light levels reduce and a direct Disney Transportation shuttle to Typhoon Lagoon from 1:30 – 2:45 p.m.

DISNEY’S TYPHOON LAGOON WATER PARK:  Typhoon Lagoon will utilize their nighttime lights as needed and continue to operate with little to no impact to guests.

Interested in viewing the eclipse on Monday? Then, be sure to review the following information:

1) Can I just look up to the sky to watch it? According to the National Weather Service, the only way to safely observe a partially eclipsed sun is through special solar filtered glasses. Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun.

2) Can I purchase the recommended glasses to watch an eclipse at Walt Disney World? No.

3) Where can guests view the eclipse if they don’t have the appropriate glasses? Guests staying in a Disney resort can check their in-room television to watch news coverage of the eclipse or view it online using personal mobile devices.
